George A. Tompkins, 67, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- George A. Tompkins, 67, a resident of Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie and formerly a longtime Wappingers Falls resident, died Saturday, Nov. 21.

Tompkins was the son of late George C. and Margaret E. Beach Tompkins, born Jan. 12, 1948, in Mahopac.

Tompkins worked for the City of New York at the Chelsea Water Supply in Chelsea until his retirement Dec. 29, 2000 after 36 years of service. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and also rooted for the New York Giants. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his siblings, Shirley Paul and her husband, John of Altamonte Springs, Fla; Sharon Badgley and her husband, Richard of Greenwich; Dolores Thomas and her husband, Roger of Huntington, Conn.; Karen Corbin and her husband, Sonny of Wappingers Falls; and Gary Tompkins of Kingston; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Tompkins was predeceased by his brother and caretaker of many years, Robert in 2013.

Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot in Milltown Cemetery in Brewster.
